Twitter down for everyone, not just you

While some Twitter users reported intermittent updates via TweetDeck dashboard applications, the short-message website was down for many late Thursday morning. Twitter acknowledged the outage via it's status blog shortly before noon ET, with this brief statement.:
Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.
Despite an update that followed soon after Twitter's original post, that the "issue has been stabilized and all services are restored," many were still unable to access the site. Further, the status website Down For Everyone or Just Me, reported that Twitter was still down.

Google Talk Is Down: Worldwide Outage Since 6:50 AM EDT

It’s not just you. GTalk is down worldwide. Google first recognized the issue and started investigating at 6:40 AM EDT. While Google Talk appears to be up at first glance, calls and messages fail to complete, likely leaving internet users feeling alone, adrift in a sea of information without anyone around to share a laugh over a cat GIF.

Since the service crashed, Google has provided hourly updates via the Google Talk Service Details page. The latest one, posted at 8:50 AM EDT, does not provide an estimated time when Google expects the service to be restored.

Amazon cloud outage takes down Netflix, Instagram, Pinterest, & more

An outage of Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud in North Virginia has taken down Netflix, Pinterest, Instagram, and other services. According to numerous Twitter updates and our own checks, all three services are unavailable as of Friday evening at 9:10 p.m. PT.

Amazon’s service health dashboard indicates that there are power issues in its North Virginia data center, most likely caused by severe storms in the region.

Independent checks by VentureBeat of Netflix, Instagram, Pinterest, and Heroku show each site not operating.

Parts of Amazon Web Services suffer an outage

Updated: Amazon web services are having trouble this evening and in the process are taking down some major sites and services. Among sites being impacted are Quora and HipChat. In addition, the Amazon outage has had an impact on Heroku, a division of Salesforce.

Amazon is one of the key infrastructure providers to some of the biggest and many well known startups such as Pinterest and Dropbox. The outages were related to Amazon’s EC2 and RDS services and the problems it seemed were localized to Amazon’s Virginia datacenter. Other services in the North Virginia data center such as ElastiCache and Elastic Beanstalk were also impacted. The problem appears to be rooted in a power outage.

Microsoft Azure falls down, goes boom

Updated: Microsoft Azure went down Monday night and stayed down for hours. That news comes as Microsoft is trying to pitch two-year-old Azure as a safe and reliable platform for consumer and business applications.

As first reported by The Register, which cited Microsoft’s service page, Azure’s service management system started acting up just before 6 p.m. Pacific time, and the problem persisted for at least 12 hours. Microsoft’s Service Dashboard showed that two Access Control areas — in Northern Europe and South Central U.S. — were disrupted as of 10 a.m. Pacific time Tuesday.
